- After emphasizing the tensions between big and small states (and free and slave states) in the formation of the Constitution, we broke into pairs/small groups and analyzed two modified excerpts (download above) from a Federalist and Antifederalist author.
- This was followed by a discussion of the two positions, and student perspectives over who they would have sided with, etc.

In-class Monday 9.30 - Primary Source Analysis: Thomas Paine's "Common Sense"
- We worked through this excerpt together as a class, not focusing on the analysis questions. Essentially, we examined how Paine criticizes monarchy, and especially hereditary monarchy.
- Students then broke up into pairs/trios and worked through this excerpt, answering the questions.
- We concluded class by viewing this video clip and comparing Reagan's appeal to Paine's (regarding Question 4).

- We worked alone or in pairs to fill in key details about the events on the timeline, as well as answering the questions on the second page. This was collected on Thursday for a grade, to be returned as a study tool.
